Dear Friends & Supporters,

Last year we posed this question:

Is culture a luxury or a necessity?

For those of us who have experienced the enlivening and healing forces that pulse through the arts, the answer is clear. Culture is a necessary and vital part of our community because through the arts we can explore together the heights and depths of the human experience. We can examine together the big questions and envision the kind of society we wish to build. And we can discover new pathways toward inner freedom. All these elements form the foundation of a more just and civil society. And a more joyful one!

Thanks to your ongoing support, we at Walking the dog Theater have made a significant shift over the past year in how we work with money and our community. We have come one step closer to our goal of offering all our productions and educational programs for free. With your help, we have been able to offer both our fall and winter productions for anyone who wished to attend, regardless of their ability to pay. We have also been able to make our workshops accessible to all through sliding scale fees. As a result, we have welcomed new audiences to our productions and new students to our workshops. The WTD community has grown!

As we look toward 2014, we would like to take another step with you. We would like to strengthen and build upon the foundation we have built together. As a community, let us strive to develop ever more consciously the supporting framework for a free cultural life!

Friends, each one of us has a role to play. We need your help to make this possible.

Would you be willing to make a monthly pledge to WTD in order to support our work? Your pledge, no matter how small, will support all of WTD's work throughout the year.

Here's how it works:
The more we raise in monthly pledges, the more experiences we can offer free of charge.
$2,000 in monthly pledges = A Christmas Carol free for all, support WTD's work throughout the year.
$4,000 in monthly pledges = the above + 2 free school residencies (WTD artist works in a school on a theater production), all of our after school programs with no fees attached, and Improv performances free of charge.
$6,000 in monthly pledges = the above + 2 free professional productions for the whole community and 2 public workshops free of charge.

What you are supporting with a year-long commitment to monthly pledges:

January-December 2014: in-school residencies, after school programs, public workshops, private consultations, Improv, tour of The Gospel of John, Summer production, Fall production, A Christmas Carol and tour. The ongoing administrative work of running a not-for-profit organization.
(WTD's work in Asia is supported by foundations and communities in Asia.)

Friends, let's continue this journey together! In the spirit that inspired A Christmas Carol, let's take another step as a community toward making culture available to everyone! If you make a monthly commitment for 12 calendar months to WTD, even in an amount as small as $5, together we can offer live theater and artistic workshops to many who would not otherwise get to experience them. Not ready to make a monthly commitment? Your one-time donation is most welcome.

Thank you for being part of the WTD community. You give our work wings!

With warm wishes and thanks,

David Anderson

P.S. Please contact us if you have any questions or in other ways wish to support this movement toward making culture accessible for everyone (info@wtdtheater.org).
